Exams

Dogs and cats age much more quickly than we do and are at risk for many of the same diseases. Regular examinations assist in identification of issues before your pet experiences symptoms of illness.  ZippiVet offers primary care and urgent care services. We recommend frequent wellness exams for puppies and kittens, followed by annual exams for adult animals.  Senior pets may also need more frequent check-ups.  Examination intervals for your pet will depend on their age, lifestyle, and health conditions.

ZippiVet offers several types of exams in order to meet our clients needs.  We do our best to offer exams in a Fear Free environment with certified Fear Free staff.  We monitor for signs of stress in your pet in order to bond and create trust.  We never want your pet to be uncomfortable or scared because we want you and your pet to have the best experience possible.

Wellness exams are for pets that are healthy with no health problems or concerns. Our veterinarian will check your pet’s weight, coat and skin, eyes, nose, teeth and gums, musculoskeletal health, and the heart and lungs. During wellness visits items such as healthy pet bloodwork, heartworm tests and vaccinations will be discussed and the best plan for you and your pet will be implemented.

Comprehensive exams are for pets that have a concern such as ear infections, skin infections, allergies, limping, vomiting, diarrhea, and behavioral consultations.  These exams are more thorough and can take more time with the medical staff.  Treatment options will be reviewed with you by the veterinary medical staff and some illnesses may require in-hospital treatments.

Urgent care or emergency services are also offered to our clients in their most vulnerable times. These exams are specifically for pets that are in need of immediate attention and cannot wait for the next available appointment due to the seriousness of their illness or clinical signs. Please contact ZippiVet if you are facing an urgent issue or an emergency so that our staff can provide you with advice and a plan of action for your pet.

In between exams, we encourage pet parents to be on the lookout for indications of health problems including weight loss, excessive drinking or urination, loss of appetite, lethargy, behavioral changes, skin lumps, growths or irritation, diarrhea or vomiting, bad breath or bleeding gums, or redness and irritation in the ears.

What to expect during your exam:

A ZippiVet veterinarian and technician will examine your pet and work with you to determine a diagnostic and treatment plan. We will discuss the examination findings and recommendations and provide you with a cost estimate prior to prescribing medication, performing diagnostics and administering treatments.  We want to work as your partner in your pet’s health care plan and make sure you feel comfortable with your pet’s care.
